Who are the LinCC?
The Living in Care Council (LinCC) is a participation group open to all young people in Bromley’s care aged 11 – 17. Our role is to represent the voice of Bromley’s care population, as we know that when you are in care it can often feel like everyone other than you is making decisions for you. We work with Bromley to make sure that our experiences are taken into consideration when big decisions are made about how to support the care population. We meet regularly for fun activities and to discuss how we can make care a better place and get our voices heard. We address these issues with Bromley’s Heads of Services, Elected Members and Senior Managers on your behalf and hold them accountable to making change.
What activities will you get to do if you join LinCC?
- Meetup fortnightly with other young people in fun sessions to discuss relevant issues around being in care and act on our priorities.
- Attend our annual training residential, full of fun packed outdoor activities and workshops.
- Take part in regular fun activities such as going out to eat and bowling.
- Be able to discuss your concerns and create change in the care system by meeting with Elected Members, Senior Officers and Heads of Service within the council.
- Help us deliver fun events for children in care such as the Corporate Parenting Fun Day and Celebration of Achievement.
- Get trained and paid to help us recruit new members of staff that will work with children in care such as Social Workers, Heads of Services and Foster Carers.
What are the benefits of joining LinCC?
- You can increase your confidence, communication and presentation skills and many other aspects that will prepare you for employment and further education.
- You can make great friends who can support you and share advice as you may have similar experiences – at LinCC we are very supportive and friendly and treat each other like a family.
- Being part of the group will look really good on your CV and can increase your chances of getting into different positions in the future, such as university or employment.
- You can get the opportunity to run for an elected position within LinCC such as the Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary/Minute Taker or Publicity/Media Officer.
- Most importantly – you get to have lots of fun!
LinCC’s Top Priorities for 2025-2027
Every 2 years at our training residential, our corporate parents attend to pitch us with ideas of projects that they would like to work with us on and we chose 2 of their best ideas. Also we select 2 additional priorities that we feel is important to work on.
Our priorities are:
- To be more involved in the decisions that affect children in care.
- To be more involved in foster carers journeys.
